The next game in the series takes place approximately 150 years prior to Suikoden I and is set in the most ancient time period in the series. The Hero, who is the next bearer of the Rune of Punishment, is a trainee of the Seaborne Knights of Gaien stationed at the eastern port city of Razril. The role of the Seaborne Knights is mainly to fight pirates and monsters within Gaian's maritime territories, protecting merchant vessels, and to prepare for attacks by foreign nations.
